You all ready for a month straight of Black ELement? While ELement’s highly anticipated debut album, A Major Minority, continues to marinate in the mix, EL has decided to drop a track every Monday, Wednesday and Friday until the LP is available to help promote the album, and as a thank you for the wait. This 3 day a week segment is called Missing ELements and will last for 3 weeks until the album drops, with a surprise on the 4th week. Black ELement’s record will be drop September 18th and will be available via a free download.
Props to 2dope and all the other promo blogs that are joining in to promote this cat.
Ever since I first gripped the mic, people have been trying to tell me what I can or cannot do AND how I should spit over beats. Eventually, I realized 99% of these doods don’t know what the fuck they are talking about! When I was Sixteen years old I met Talib Kweli and dood changed the whole direction of how I approached music with just two simple words– “Do you.” So, I’m going to do whatever I want with music. If I feel a like making a heavy metal track– i’m going to do it. Fuck the naysayers…I don’t need Confirmation! – Black ELement

Vinylpops Closes…New Beginnings…
Posted in Hip Hop, Talk on July 27, 2008 by vinylpopsAs a few of you know I used to run a website called Rhymehouse.com, and after settling with a design that wasn’t workable, I took a few months off to figure out what I was going to do with it. I did vinylpops for shits and giggles and I hope you all enjoyed it, but now I re-did my old site, re-launched and turned it into a Mega-Vinylpops.
Rhymehouse.com is now back open for business. You can visit the website here at http://www.rhymehouse.com.
If you are an artist that would like to be featured on the site or if you are a website/blog that wants to collab, please hit me up.
See you over at the new home.
Peace,
VP.

Posted in Talk on July 24, 2008 by vinylpopsYo, you might see a different website being tagged in some mp3 downloads. WeDoItRight Magazine is a website im helping out and doing a bit of writing for, so anything I post over there I just decided to toss up here as well.
Check out the newly launched WeDoItRight Mag here! Shout outs to Santos.
Also, vinylpops will be undergoing a makeover and/or URL switch within the next few weeks. I’ll keep you updated. Thanks for coming by.

One Day As a Lion

Who is One Day As a Lion?
“One Day As A Lion is both a warning delivered and a promise kept.”
A defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare. It’s a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask.
Basically, One Day As A Lion is a recorded interaction between Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against the Machine) and Jon Theodore (Mars Volta) from Los Angeles, California.
The name, One Day As a Lion, taken from the infamous 1970 black and white, captured by legendary Chicano photographer George Rodriguez featuring a center framed tag on a white wall in an unspecified section of Boyle Heights. It reads: ‘It’s better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb.’ This record is a stripped down attempt to realize this sentiment in sound.
The 5-track EP was released this past tuesday (July 22nd) via Anti Records. Below are two mp3s from this dope release!

Reks- Grey Hairs [BONUS TRACKS]

Who picked up their copy of “Grey Hairs” today? I had to, because Reks’ comeback album is one of the best hip hop records released this year (in my opinion). The veteran came correct with street conscious concepts, staple east coast production, Beantown swagger and the type of album I believe everyone wanted Nas to make.
Below are some unreleased BONUS TRACKS from the album. I also tossed a couple singles off the record in case you all haven’t heard anything from Reks.
